Hi there we are wanting to replace our 1999 Toyota altezza. We are looking at buying a mid size SUV for the purpose of towing a 8x4 trailer with 2 motor bikes, fire wood and the odd load to the tip. Also wanting to have the 2WD and 4WD options would be great. We really like the 07 08 Nissan xtrail but these have Cvt and we many people advise these are no good for towing. AA site says they can 750 unbreaked and 2000 breaked. We are wanting to spend around $12500. Can you advise regards to the cvt for towing or any other ideas for possible vehicles?

This is true, CVT transmissions in vehicles around the price range you have may not be strong enough to tow much more than a garden trailer. Suzuki or Mitsubishi SUV's might have the 2WD/4WD select options. Otherwise maybe a Subaru Forester could be a good all-rounder. Maybe even look at a Honda CRV and see what's available.
