I am interested in buying a 2007 Kia Picanto , NZ new, owned by an elderly person which has only travelled just over 10,000 ks. are there any likely problems to be encountered with such a low mileage in a 12 year old car? I have this same model car which has 120,000 ks, am I better to stay with this or buy the same car with the very low mileage ?

Hi there,
While a low mileage car will look and feel new, there are a few potential things to consider. If the vehicle is only used for short runs then the engine will have done a lot of cold running and may be a bit clogged up and might take some long drives to clear the engine intake system or require a workshop clean. The thermostat might need replacement as it might get a bit sticky with lack of use. The exhaust system will retain a lot of moisture and might rust from the inside out, so I wouldn't be surprised if parts require replacement at some stage.
