I have been driving a Nissan Avenir which is no longer usable. I am looking for a shorter car in which the seats can fold down to form a flat bed to get catering supplies in and out but can also be used to tow occasionally the families cage trailor (7X9). I would like to stick with a 2 litre or less. We have been warned against buying a car with CVT transmission for towing purposes. I'm not wanting to spend more than $7000 and most cars are newer than the 1998 Avenir so that would be a bonus. any ideas.

Maybe look into a Subaru Impreza or Forester? Honda CRV, or Toyota Rav4. It's a niche list of requests for $7k so you might need to hunt around a bit. European cars like Audi A3 or VW Golf wagon could also be an option if you like European cars.
