Hi, I am looking online for newly imported cars from Japan and I was hoping for some advise. I am looking at station wagons due to practicality for space and fuel. So far I have narrowed it down to a 2.0L 2005 Mazda Atenza with 39000 kms and a 2.0L Subaru Legacy with 78000 kms. They are both roughly the same price. Any advise?

Another thought is timing chain vs timing belt?

Both these vehicles are great choices and would be hard to pick between the two. It would maybe come down to safety items, and spec level.
Cambelts are usually due for replacement at around 5-10years 100,000km, and chains don't have a replacement interval, but if they stretch it does cost about 3x as much as a cambelt would cost to replace.
