After much angst, I have bought a 2004 Mazda Demio, 1.3, A4. Very pleased with the car which I think will suit me well; perhaps not so pleased with the standards of the trader that I bought it from?
2 questions please; 1) It looks like the recommended tyre pressures are 210Kpa & 180Kpa, I can read numbers but I can't decipher Japanese calligraphy - I presume this is 210 front & 180 rear? 2) With the engine off, the auto transmission fluid shows an acceptable level, with the engine running the fluid level doesn't register on the dipstick, is this correct?
Yes this is correct however 180Kpa sounds a little on the low side to me.
Recommend you set all four pressures to 210Kpa (just over 30psi).
Fluid level should be checked when the engine is switched off.
I note you say the trans oil should be checked with the engine switched off. This is in total contrast to anything i have read. My manual { camry} clearly states the oil should be checked with the engine running. Is the demio somehow different?
I do apologise you are correct. The engine should be idling with the transmission in the Park position when the oil level is checked.
Thank you for questioning my initial answer.
Thanks for this correction, I thought this was the case also but my automotive knowledge is not good enough to question the AA.
Having effectively established that I am short of auto transmission fluid - I cant' find the filler to top up.
Is this something that should be done by a service garage or do you just pour it in the dipstick tube?
I strongly recommend you take the car to either your local Mazda dealer or an automatic transmission specialist to have the transmission topped up.
The reason I say that is you need to make sure the correct type of oil is added. Not all transmissions fluids are the same.
They will do the job in half the time and you will have the peace of mind it is being filled with the correct fluid.
