I am looking for a good second hand tow vehicle that is capable of towing 3-3.5T. I have had a look at a 2003 Ford Explorer V8 4.6L LTD Model for $10k. It drove and handed well but there seems to be mixed reviews on these vehicles and I am finding it hard to get a definitive answer on whether or not these are good reliable vehicles. I am not too worried about the fuel consumption as it won't be used that often, but do want a good strong reliable tow vehicle for around the $10k mark.

This is quite a unique price and tow vehicle category for vehicle choices. The options will generally include older vehicles will high kms. How a vehicle has been maintained, if it has been a tow vehicle, the fact they are still running and have a current wof may give an insight into vehicle reliability. Things like timing chains/ cambelt replacement, external transmission coolers, and rust will be things to look out for. Another vehicle with a good tow capacity can be a Mitsubishi Pajero.
