In 2014 we purchased a 2009 Mazda demio from Fairview showrooms in Hamilton. Yesteday we had a phone call from Fairview to say that the mileage on the car was incorrect and the car was under investigation by the police. He offered to refund us the purchase price of the car ($12,000). Can you comment on this? Should we accept the offer?

First I would check that their offer is legitimate (not some kind of scam), I've not heard of this kind of buy back offer before. It would seem strange that you've had the car for 4 years and they are still refunding the purchase price. I would ask for some documentation in writing. If they are being investigated by the police and the car is part of it, you might not want to be owning it any further(especially if it has been tampered with/ misrepresented)
