As we accelarate there seems to be a bit of a shudder on the left hand side. We have mentioned it to the place we purchased the car from they took if for a drive said it was normal with the CVT transmission is this right?

We thought it might be a CV joint but thats fine whats you thoughts

This doesn't sound normal, I would take it to an AA Auto Centre and let a technician assess the issue, if they narrow down the issue or recommend work you can raise the issue with the place you bought the vehicle from.
