Dear advisor,

I've noticed that Mitsubishi Mirages that are 4 or 5 years old are going for around $7 to 8K (private sellers). Wondering why the resale value is quite a bit lower than other makes of a similar cc. I did test drive one and found that the motor lacks refinement and is noisy. Could this be the main reason? Or are there other reasons for its lack of popularity?

I'm not to sure why I have always found Mitsubishi's to be a bit of an undervalued brand, They do tend to hang onto old engine designs for a long time such as with the 4G range, but that's not really a bad thing.
looking at models that are less popular may allow your money to go further.
