Forum Buying or selling What are Toyotta Hatch cars more popular than Sedans cards when there's less boot space

Brian8

I compared a 2018 Toyota Corolla Hatch with a Toyota sedan can and found the sedan had more boot space (470 L compared with only 360 L in the Hatch car. I was told that Hatch cars have more boot space making them more popular but it seems that the sedan has more boot space.

Hello Brian yes It does appear that the sedan has increased space, however I suppose the sedan would probably have less height in the back for taller items and it would depend on what you were loading into the vehicle

To make the most of the boot/cargo space I have then I would have to full up the boot/cargo space all the way up to the cars ceiling and use the side mirrors to monitor traffic behind me. Is there any problem in doing this or can it be unsafe for a back seat passenger?

You should always use common sense when loading any vehicle, if the load is unstable from being stacked too high or impedes your vision in such a way that it makes your driving dangerous you should rearrange or reduce your load, you seem to be wanting to carry a lot of cargo have you considered a Toyota station wagon?

Thanks for the suggestion of a Toyota station wagon, I did consider this but the engine is too small (1.5L) and I need a car that is better at climbing on hills when I travel to the Greymouth from Christchurch.

I'm not certain why they would put an engine that has less power in a station wagon that is likely to have a lot of weight to carry around if it gets fulled with luggage.
