Our Ipsum has just been written off, so we're looking for a replacement. Something around $5k, c. 2003-2005. We'd happily buy another Ipsum, our current one has been great, but we're also considering a Mazda Premacy.

Any advice on which is best (all things being equal, obviously)? Anything to beware of with the Premacy? (I've never had a Mazda.) We're a family of six so need something in this range to fit everyone. Cheers.

Hi there,
Both are reported to be fairly good solid choices, as is a Honda Stream 1.8ltr.
It would depend on what engine size you are happy with, as the Toyota has a 2.4, Mazda has 1.8 or 2.0ltr options.

Thanks Cade - so no major difference in reliability (or cost / difficulty of repair if needed), as far as you know?

I'm not aware of any major differences between these brands, as they are most likely Japanese imports, most parts required might be OEM or aftermarket, obtained from just about any automotive supplier in very competitive market.
Just keep in mind that they are aged vehicles that have used up a lot of their "trouble free" lives and have potential not be so trouble free from here on in.
