Hi,

I am quite keen on a 2011 Nissan Teana 250VX with 79,500Km which has just been imported from Japan by a dealer. The price is around 8.7K which is quite cheap compared to the price by other dealers. I had a test drive and heard a whining noise when accelerating. I was told by the dealer that the car is due for service and the whining noise will disappear after changing oil. But I am not convinced. I am not sure if this noise is caused by failing CVT and I should stay away from this car. If it is, I will not buy this car. Otherwise, I am planning to do a pre-purchase comprehensive inspection before buying it. Could you let me know if it is a symptom of failing CVT? ALSO , how reliable is "2011 Nissan Teana 250VX" car from Japan? Thanks.

Hi there,
As with most Japanese imported vehicles, servicing history can be a bit of an unknown, and buying a fresh import is a risk. We don't know how they have been treated or if it has ever been serviced. A transmission specialist will be able to advise if they see a lot and what to look out for.
Generally any vehicle making a noise is not a good thing, specially if they are saying a service will fix it. There is no way of knowing what damage has been done in the meantime.
