I'm about to purchase the Golf 2010 1.4 TSI.
I've heard about the problems with DSG transmission which was the cause of the 2013 recall.
I've already checked with my local dealer and there are no outstanding recall work to be done on the car im after.
I was just wondering if you have any insight into how common the DSG transmission problem persists even after the recall? Or any insight in general about this car.
Thank you!

Hi there,
I'm not aware of specific years where they were more or less likely to give problem with the DSG. However I do know that the 1.4 TSI Turbo and Supercharged engine can be a bit problematic and at time can be an expensive combination with the DSG if things go wrong.

Hi,
Is this a common problem in your experience? Does AA offer mechanical warranty? Or where could I look at getting mechanical warranty?

Hi there,
Considering the amount of Golfs out there, we don't actually hear too many complaints through our channels. As with any car, there has been the odd disaster story. It would be good to have any vehicle thoroughly checked before purchase to try and minimise buying a car with a high potential for premature failures.
Yes we have an AA MBI service: https://www.aa.co.nz/insurance/mechanical-breakdown-insurance/
