Hi, I am looking at a VW Golf 1800 1999, I know it is an old car but it is in good nick and I have not owned one of these before. Just wondered if these are fairly reliable cars and easy to fix? Or not worth going to? Thankyou

They are a great car, but at this age can be a never ending list of repairs just to keep it going (I had a 1.8t GTI). Just keep in mind that there s a potential for more money to be spent that the same year Japanese manufactured vehicle. Turbo, transmission and cooling system are a few main areas to check that they are not going to give trouble.
