Hi, looking to replace our 4wd & tow vehicle (1992 Izusu Bighorn), its been a great vehicle but now getting on in years. Mainly towing a double horse float so needs a decent tow capaity. Trouble is there doesn't seem to be much out there available for under $20k. Any suggestions? What would the recommended engine size be? The Bighorn is 3.1TD and seems to cope with most thrown at it, is the Rexton an option at 2.7?
The vehicle would also need to be able to be used off road a bit (i.e round paddocks) and occasionally rough gravel road, plus road driving (without horse float). Thanks :)

Hi there,
A list of vehicle tow weights can be found here: https://www.aa.co.nz/cars/owning-a-car/towing/towing-weights/?pstart=10
As with any aging vehicle, they would have had most of their useful life already and you may find them requiring a lot of on-going repairs to keep them on the road. I would have thought a 2.7ltr quite a capable tow vehicle, specs show a rating of around the 3t mark.
