I am looking to replace my Mazda 6 2008 with a diesel car. I do alot of km's (Auckland to Kaitaia once a month, sometimes twice). My current vehicle is awesome, but I want to get a new car before it gets too old or problems arise. My budget is $25k max. What diesel cars do you recommend for this price range. I am considering a Mazda GSX Wagon (as I love the wagons), I do not like the CX Mazda range. The other option I thought of was a Toyota Rav 4. Your recommendation on diesel SUV's would be appreciated IN MY PRICE RANGE and that are reliable, otherwise I'll stick with the wagon which is superb. Also warranties, how do they work from a dealer. Is it from the date of registration ie: 2016 or from the date you purchase the vehicle? I don't want to buy less than 2015. Thank you.

Hi there,
The vehicle year range you are looking into would be vehicles potentially just coming out of their manufacturers warranty - so we would not really have heard how reliable the vehicle has been as the manufacturer would be the ones to remedy any issue.
However Mazda vehicles across the range have been well received as of late and seem to not really be putting a foot wrong in both diesel and petrol fuel types. Mazda 6 GSX would be a great mid-spec to go for with a balance of comfort and safety items. I know that the Diesel Rav had a few issues in recent years with excessive oil consumption, but I imagine should be sorted by now. Warranty information would depend on if you are talking about the manufacturers new car warranty or an aftermarket breakdown insurance type. Manufacturers warranty would usually start from when the first owner takes possession - which would normally be the same time it was registered. More detailed info would need to be obtained by the supplier of the warranty.

Hi. OK so Mazda GSX it is or I look at an SUV. What is your recommendation on an SUV diesel model apart from Mazda - can you give me another 2 recommendations. There are so many these days out there I don't know what's good, reliable etc. Regards.

Hi there,
We've not really heard any horror stories about many diesel SUV's lately they all seem to be either too new, or not very problematic yet.
Hyundai ix35, Kia Sportage, Nissan x-trail are a few that may be worth a look.
