I'm looking to buy a new 4x4 twin cab diesel ute I simply can't afford a Ford or a toyota so I am looking at Foton T3 or Great Wall Stead. Do we know of any reason I should avoid these brands.

Because they are often purchased new and under warranty, we don't hear too many complaints as the dealers will be handling it.
However often it is a case of you get what you pay for and there may be a few build quality anomalies that you wouldn't see with the other manufacturers.
A review I have seen, puts the Great Wall above the Foton. An LDV Ute may also be a consideration, I have driven one and it's not all that bad.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I was thinking, I remember when we used to say the same about Japanese cars. Jap *rap. Now they are our benchmark. BUT I can almost buy two for one so I gotta think hard about the real value of the known brands. I found the Foton drove better than the LDV but the Great Wall is at an excellent price so ??????
