I have been looking at used Honda Fits/Jazz, as the seem super economical, and the seat configuration flexibility is unbeatable. But then I was warned about the CVT issues (by a mechanic). Is this in all Fits/Jazz? or just the older ones? I've been looking at a couple of 2009 Fits (imported suits my budget better), but should I be worried about this problem still occurring? Would something like a Mazda Verisa be a better alternative?

Hi there,
We've not heard of problems with later CVT's, but the main issues were if the battery was ever flat/ disconnected and the transmission memory was lost. The vehicle would then shudder upon take-off.
Servicing is another big importance, good quality fluid is required to ensure the transmission remains reliable.

Is 2009 considered a later CVT? I have been looking at a 2009 fit that has really low km's (19k), imported in 2017, but has barely been used in the last year, subsequently the battery went flat, and I know it has been replaced. So based on what you have just said, would I be better off to shy away from that?

Hi,
Sorry I forgot to mention that if the memory is lost, it can be reset by the use of a diagnostic scan tool (often performed by Honda).
So if you do find a car that does shudder on take-off there could be a number of ways to remedy it and it would need further investigation.
