Hi
I'm about to purchase a 1972 Classic Caravan that currently has no wof or rego as has been sitting for 13 years.
I have a mechanic friend who will get it fixed but he needs to know what the weight of that van is and what the requirements are for the brakes. He said something about it having old cable system and unsure if that is still allowed?
The plate on it is 8864R . Not sure if that helps any.
Also, although it does have a current electrical cert, could you tell me how and what is needed for next time please.
I've not had a caravan before so all this is new to me.
Thank You
God Bless

Hi Jill,
Because a caravan is treated like a trailer, there is very little information registered in the system.
A licensed electrician should be able to issue the electrical cert required for caravans. I recommend Google searching electricians in the area.
If you need to know the weight, it may be best to go to a transfer station which have drive-over scales that can give weight. Information can be found here: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/resources/factsheets/13d/docs/13d-trailers-light-simple.pdf
