We are looking to buy a vehicle and can go up to $20000, our preference is this decade, under 100000K and either a wagon or SUV. Ideally 1st preference would be Passat wagon 2.0 TDI but they look to be few and far between, so what alternatives would you recommend?

A few come to mind within your criteria that may be worth a look all around 2011 onwards.
BMW X1, Mitsubishi Outlander, or Mazda CX5 if you want more of an SUV.
Mazda 6, Subaru Outback/ Legacy, or an MPV in the Mazda CX7 2.5ltr.
