We are thinking of buying a new Mitsubishi ASX 2WD Petrol XLS from a dealer. Are you aware of any major problems with this model or previous versions and how highly would you rate it.
Could you comment on the CVT Auto engine as I have read some reviews online saying this is now outdated.
Our key criteria are safety, quietness, fuel economy and good suspension (over NZ's bumpy surfaces!). A car for my wife and I to enjoy touring trips as well as local travel. We don't need lots of electronic devices.
Also what should we be paying for one?
Thank you.

Hi there,
As luck would have it, I just tested one this weekend.
We had the XLS 2.0Ltr CVT base model.
I actually didn't mind it, even though I have been used to driving higher spec vehicles with navigation and all the extra assists.
The car drove well, the transmission and engine combination wasn't bad, the car had slight tyre noise but not bad. Drove smooth and comfortable. For the price, not a bad choice. Not a crowd stopper but comfortable and easy to operate, large side mirrors all but eliminate blind spots, also has a decent sized boot. Current special price lists as $29,990 plus ORC. 5-star ANCAP safety rating and a pretty good fuel economy of 7.6ltrs/ 100km. I'm not aware of any faults complained about as yet.
