Good afternoon.

My son is has his eye on a vehicle (described above) which in my view sounds like it could well be a costly 'investment' (given the age, KM's, fuel cost etc). He is 23 y/o and would mostly use for to and from work and around Auckland.

I have obtained a VIR and we had a look at this last night - before spending more money on a vehicle inspection (which I would say is a must), I wondered if anyone had any views good or bad on this type of vehicle.

What I do know form the VIR is the following:
- KM's - circa 300k (Odo 14 March 2017 - although currently speedo, techno and odo not connected)
- Asking price $10k (although may take $9k) - seem high for age and KM's, but is an E30 5 speed manual and may attract a premium?
- NZ new and 14 owners (probably some dealer as some short term ownership seems evident)
- Has had some modifications - rims, air filter, battery in the boot.

Other thoughts:
- Seems to operate on 95-98 Octane (probably won't run on 91 given the age?)
- Servicing and parts likely expensive?
- some evidence of rust (would need to get this checked)
- reliability will be important for my son's shift work

Appreciate any feedback

Regards
Simon

Hi there,
I can see one on trade me that is asking 10k and fits the description you mentioned.
I would be a bit cautious with this one, 1/ the vehicle is not legal (wof and reg), 2/ the speedo is not working so won't pass a wof anyway, 3/ the engine looks to be a late model (needs to be confirmed have a look at the other vehicle s of same year) and may need the change certifying before a wof can be issued.
Also the A/4 mentioned might stand for Automatic sedan, so this may also be a modification that would need further investigation.
I would struggle with paying anywhere close to this amount based on this information, the vehicle is not in original condition where a high price could be asked.
