is it safe to buy a re vin car? and what is the reason for re vin?

There are a few reasons for a re-vin, the vehicle would need further investigation/ pre purchase inspection for sure.
The vehicle could be a statutory write-off and has been de-registered by an insurance company, sold, repaired and put back on the road.
Or the vehicle has been un-registered for over 12 months and fallen off the NZTA register and required a re-vin to be put back on the road, this could be due to a problem with the vehicle or the owner was unable to repair/ keep the licensing current.
