Hi there

Our family is in the market for a new (used) car. We are looking for a 7 seater vehicle, although the 3rd row seat will only be used on occasion. Safety is of paramount importance to us with reliability a close second. Based on our requirements, we have narrowed our search down to 2 vehicles:
• Toyota Vanguard (2012 or 2013 model- auto 2.4l)
• Nissan X-Trail (2016 model -auto 2.5l CVT)

Some questions...
1) Are there any common issues with either vehicle that we should be aware of?
2) In terms of safety, the Nissan X-Trail has clear ANCAP safety data available. However, we are struggling to find much safety information on the Toyota Vanguard. How safe would you consider this vehicle relative to the Nissan X-Trail?
3) I understand the Toyota Vanguard has been around in Japan since 2007. Have there been facelifted models since inception or would a 2012 model simply reflect old (2007) technology?
Thanks
Janelle

Hi there,
The distinct difference between the two is age and the fact that one is NZ new and the Toyota is an import. Specs are hard to find and safety ratings are non existent.
Toyota are known to be reliable even with the CVT transmissions, however this model stopped production in our books at 2013.
The Nissan will be the pick of the bunch, as it will be newer, potentially safer, and still under warranty?.
