I have a small caravan 0100kg fully loaded and am looking at purchasing a mid size 4wd to tow it such as a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 engine. These have a braked towing specification of 1700kg, but I understand that they have CVT transmissions and I have heard these are not so good for towing. Could you advise please.

Hi there,
In early days as a general rule CVT transmissions were not recommended as a tow vehicle and they had very low tow ratings because the transmission was not very strong.
If the manufacturer has stated a max load of 1700kg and you tow 1,000kg, I would not expect there to be any problems. Technology has advanced and the transmissions are getting better so we are seeing a rise in the manufacturers tow ratings. I recommend looking into the manufacturers towing recommendations in the handbook to ensure that the transmission longevity is not reduced by the towing.
