Hi, I bought a car less than 2 months ago from a trader. I was told it had an oil change however decided to get my own done 2 weeks ago. When they changed it they said it had lots of cream in the oil cap and to check it in a week. It's got worse and kissing engine coolant so 99% the name as gasket has gone. I have. Called the seller and he says it been too long however I do minimal mileage and believe he know about it when selling it. Can you help me as I'm not sure of my rights but obviously would not ha e bought it had I known. Thanks Cliff

Hi there,
You have rights when buying from a dealer that state that the vehicle must be durable, fit for purpose, and free from defects. There is no time limit mentioned, but a few months is not a long time to have owned a car and be experiencing problems. Depending on the value of the car and cost of repairs, the dealer may which to accept an option to return the vehicle and refund the purchase amount, rather than repair. Hi do these rights still apply if buying at auction from a licensed used car dealer (ie. Turners auctions)? Or that only when buying for a fixed buy now type price?
