Hi there
I am planning to buy a used wagon, either Toyota Avensis or between Mazda 6 petrol or Deisel. Which is the least expensive when it come to scheduled service. What's the frequency of service. Also what would be the reliability for each of these and maintenance cost.

Servicing and maintenance costs will depend on how the vehicle has been serviced and what has already been replaced. I would imagine these vehicles to be very similar to service and maintain as they are both Japanese manufacturers. Some modern NZ new cars are having 12 months 15,000km service intervals as opposed to the standard 10k, the manufacturers service book will tell you which it is. Reliability of the Avensis does depend on what year you are looking at and whether it has the FSE engine (not good). The Mazda does seem to have the better fuel economy and would be my choice of vehicle out of the two.
