We are looking to purchase a family car in the $6-$8k range. We currently have a Nissan Avenir which has finally given up the ghost and want something similar in size. We're open to getting a station wagon, people mover with seats that fold down to give 'boot' space or similar. What makes/models would you recommend? Thanks :)

A popular choice that fits the bill, is the 2006 Honda Stream 1800cc which generally has a conventional automatic transmission which reduces the potential for problems. The 2004 Mazda MPV can also be a popular choice, but the engine is a lot larger (2300cc).
