Hi, I’m looking at purchasing a used imported vehicle but need to ensure it can safely tow unbraked 500-600kg.

I’m looking at a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander 4x4 2.4 G Edition. It doesn’t have a tow bar fitted at this stage. The car dealer has quoted $425 for a tow bar that he says should tow 800kg unbraked. I have had a quote from a company specialising in tow bar of $785 for a detachable tongue towbar that has a unbraked rating of 750kg.

Would it be risky taking the cheaper dealers option? It would be towing a heavy weight at least once a week.

Also is the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander 4x4 2.4 G Edition a good towing vehicle. If not what vehicles would be good options.

Hi there,
The 2007 Outlander lists from the manufacturer as having an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg and braked of 1600-2000kg depending if petrol or diesel powered.
So either tow bar should be capable of doing the job.
We have found that most vehicles will list an unbraked capacity of 750kg.
