What are the advantages, if any, of using nitrogen in tyres? Is this best for only certain types of cars?

There are many claimed benefits to adding Nitrogen in tyres.
The main advantage of adding Nitrogen is the lack of moisture in the tyre, lower increased running temperatures and the pressure loss over a set period of time is reduced.
All great attributes if you have a high performance car where the tyre is placed under pressure in terms of load and speed.
The thing to remember is this; if you have Nitrogen in the tyres you need to continue to add Nitrogen to retain the benefits. Adding normal compressed air afterwards will cancel out any benefits gained.
There is also an argument that says it will reduce corrosion (due to the lack of moisture) in the wheel rim.
Question - how many wheel rims do you see badly corroded because of the moisture content inside the tyre?
Answer - Can't remember the last time I saw one.
A good compressor delivering dry compressed air does the job for most motorists in my view with the possible exception of the high performance vehicles or should I say drivers.
Compressed air is free, adding Nitrogen is a cost which is another reason to think twice about the switch.
