The 200sx has HID head lights as an option, but my car didn't come with them.

What's required to switch them over and how much is it likely to cost?

The law is very strict on the fitting of High Intensity Discharge (HID) kits.

HID kits (an HID bulb with a high voltage power unit or ‘ballast’ which fits into the original headlamp unit in place of the original bulb with no change to the headlamp lens, reflector or housing) are illegal on any vehicle being used on New Zealand roads.

However, a complete halogen headlamp unit can be replaced with a complete HID headlamp unit provided that the replacement headlamp unit complies with approved standards.

In summary, to change your 200SX to a HID system, you would need to replace both head lamp assemblies.

Your price enquiry would need to be directed to a Nissan agent.

So this would be ok as long as I stick with the manufacturers option, which seems the right way to go.
