AA will survey Members as part of second speed limit consultation

The AA will be surveying its central Hawke’s Bay Members for their views on the speed limit reductions that have taken place within the Hastings District Council road network (Heretaunga Plains).

The changing of speed limits for more than 30 roads from 100km/h to 80km/h in March sparked a large number of complaints from the public and the AA is glad that the Hastings District Council recently decided to re-do its consultation on the changes.

The AA Hawke’s Bay District Council will give its Members the chance to have a say on the issue with a survey in early June and then use this to help make a submission on their behalf.

“Major speed limit changes like these affect a large number of people’s day-to-day lives,” says AA Hawke’s Bay District Chairman Les Cunningham.

“Many people felt they did not get to have a say when the changes were first consulted and the AA Hawke’s Bay will be strongly representing our Members’ views in the new consultation.”

“Effective speed limits need to be consistent, reflect the risks of the road, and make sense to the people travelling on them.

“The AA wants our roads to be as safe as possible while also allowing people and goods to travel quickly and effectively.”
