AA Traffic moves to in-car navigation traffic updates
Broadcasting across the FM radio band, real time traffic information will be sent to in-car navigation units that support the traffic management channel (otherwise known as TMC). Navman will provide the first in-car navigation units to support this in New Zealand on their new MY series range due in August.
"This is another major milestone in the development of AA Traffic, New Zealand's new real time traffic information service and we are pleased to have Navman on board with us," says AA spokesperson Phil Allen.
"AA Traffic real time traffic information for in-car navigation will be broadcast initially in the regions of greater Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury supplying information on accidents, incidents, road works, slips, weather related issues as well as congestion updates initially for the Auckland motorways," says Mr Allen.
The AA has developed AA Traffic using Geosmart, a company owned by the AA and New Zealand's leading supplier of in-car navigation, fleet management, web mapping, route optimisation, and cartography solutions.
