“We have very strong feedback from our Members that they are concerned about fuel economy, and that this is becoming a major factor when they make vehicle purchase choices. Recent high fuel prices have led many motorists to buy more fuel efficient vehicles, and initiatives like fuel economy labelling for retail sales of new and used cars will help them when making purchase decisions,” Mr Noon added

Today 54 cars competing in the AA EnergyWise Rally arrive in Wellington. Our sponsorship of this event is part of our commitment to help encourage fuel efficient driving and to raise awareness about the importance of increasing the fuel efficiency of the New Zealand vehicle fleet.

“Fuel efficient vehicles and fuel efficient driving is good for our pockets and for the environment,” said Mr Noon.

The AA encourages all motorists to adopt a smooth and fuel efficient driving style. This means avoiding hard acceleration and braking, keeping engine revs low and keeping highway speeds down. For most of us this driving style will save between 10 and 30% of the fuel bill.

“We also encourage the government to introduce fuel efficient driver training for all government fleet drivers and to work with the AA to promote the benefits of adopting a smooth driving style,” Mr Noon concluded.
