The AA is today moving to support Kiwi pet lovers, with the launch of a new suite of AA Pet Insurance products.

Around 64% of New Zealand homes have at least one pet ruling the roost, with an estimated 4.6 million pets outnumbering their owners*.

The launch of AA Pet Insurance, a partnership between the AA and Allianz Partners, means Kiwis can now get insurance for their companions as they already do to protect their treasured possessions and families through the wider insurance offering.

General Manager Mark Savage said it can be hard to think about bad things happening to a beloved pet, but having AA Pet insurance, means peace of mind for cat and dog owners.

“The reality is that owners can feel pushed into making tough decisions when faced with hefty costs if a pet is sick or injured. We want to help pet lovers cover the cost of those unexpected vet bills.

“We’ve also listened to Kiwis who tell us they’ve struggled to work out what the best plan for them is , so we‘re launching three simple cover options for cats and dogs with clear and concise wordings,” Mark said.

Essentials offers basic coverage, Comprehensive provides the highest level of benefits available, while Accident only provides coverage for exactly that.

All three cover options offer a 20% co-payment schedule where AA Pet Insurance provides an 80% refund of eligible treatment costs up to the claim limit^.

“With both Essentials and Comprehensive policies we’ve looked to help in areas that are really appreciated. For example, we know how distressing it can be when a pet goes missing, so we’ll help pay up to $200 towards advertising costs, and reward contributions to a maximum of $400.   

“We also offer Starter Cover for puppies and kittens between 8 and 20 weeks old with no premiums to pay and only $100 excess per event^, so that owners can take the time to really look at what fits their budget, and what they’re not prepared to do without,” Mark added.

 AA Members qualify for 10% off AA Pet Insurance policies**, while insuring multiple pets attracts an additional 5% discount.
