When a dinosaur plaster won't fix it

Sometimes the powers of T-Rex are not enough...

Parents & carers - we have all been there before haven't we? Frantically searching for the novelty plasters as we determine the extent of the injury by the amount of silence from fall to scream.

In some cases however, injuries and illnesses can occur that not even the healing power of the plaster can fix. Having health insurance for the entire family can give you peace of mind knowing that they can get the treatment they need when they need it.

Perhaps you have been considering getting the whole family covered with health insurance or you would like to add your children to your existing policy. If so, below is our quick guide on options for sorting out health insurance for the whole family.

Covering the whole family

Let's start with the first scenario above. To get the whole family covered you can easily complete this online or you can speak with us directly. You can call us on 0800 758 758 or alternatively, if you fancy a face-to-face chat we have dedicated Insurance Consultants in all our AA Centres. You can find our locations here.

The good news is that if you cover the whole family at the same time, the whole family will receive the 5% AA Member discount on AA Health Insurance policies.*

Adding children to a policy

If you fall into the second scenario above and would like to add children to your existing policy you will need to give us a call on 0800 758 758 and this can be arranged over the phone.

Access to care quickly

Although children in New Zealand are covered for all hospital and dental care by the government up until they are 18, you should consider the benefits of having private hospital cover so that operations, which aren't for emergency care, can be performed quickly.

Common treatments in children can be grommets (the insertion of tubes into the eardrums) where you would expect to pay between $2,200 - $3,500 in a private hospital and an Adenotonsillectomy (surgical removal of the adenoids and tonsils) where you would expect to pay $4,000 - $5,500 in a private hospital.**

Our Private Hospital and Specialist Health cover for a child is around the same cost as a cup of coffee per week and is our most comprehensive cover, designed to take care of specialist consultations, diagnostics, surgery and more.^

*5% AA Member discount available if you provide a valid AA Membership number for you or someone named on your policy. If provided after your policy has commenced, the discount will apply from your next billing date after you provide us with a valid AA Membership number and is applicable while you (or someone named on your policy) remain an AA Member.
